Under federal law, public school systems are obligated to provide educational services for students with disabilities until they graduate or turn 21, whichever comes first. However, students who receive public school support through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are not automatically eligible for continued adult services when they “age out” of the system. For many, this transition brings new challenges, including finding employment and navigating life outside the structured support of school. Sadly, without these resources, some young disabled adults face an increased risk of poverty. In fact, the poverty rate among working-age people with disabilities is reported to be more than twice that of individuals without disabilities.

We at Pletho want to make a difference. "Pletho" means “to fulfill” or “to be fulfilled,” reflecting our commitment to our mission and our values. We seek to remove the obstacles that individuals with disabilities often encounter in pursuing employment. We provide them job training to develop essential skills and social readiness for the workplace. We believe in their potential and value the unique contributions they bring to the workforce.

Ellis Coffee and Pletho share a commitment to empowering individuals and creating opportunities, making this relationship a natural and meaningful alignment of values. Ellis Coffee’s support includes assistance with Pletho’s initial popup stores and awarding Pletho the responsibility of fulfilling orders for Ellis Coffee’s artisan-roasted line of coffee. Ellis Coffee is the first of many clients for whom Pletho hopes to provide online fulfillment support, and with each new client we’re expanding a sustainable pathway for individuals with disabilities to gain valuable job experience and training.
